Psalm 34:7 – The Circle of Protection

Posted on Dec 10

The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.. —Psalm 34:7

God provides a circle of protection around each of us. David recognized that when he was under pressure that seemed insurmountable.

The challenge we often find is that we rely too heavily on ourselves to control situations and others. Although we must be proactive in life, we also must rely on the power of God. Spiritual resources are available right around us.

We can tell when we’re relying on those spiritual tools especially when the pressure is great. Can we continue to do what we’re doing even when problems exist around us, when kids are challenging, and when the to do list is increasing. It’s not that we have to get away for a quiet time, although that is often helpful. It’s more that we need to integrate the power and strength of God into our daily lives.

When the anger, anxiety, or internal tension increases it’s good to be reminded that there are spiritual resources available to us every day. They are provided by God.

While we’re thinking of this grand idea of protection that God provides, let’s remember to pray for our children as well, that they might experience these spiritual resources in their own lives and see God’s hand at work.

Lord, I want to pray a prayer today for a circle of protection around me and my family. I know you are there and working but I often don’t rely on your strength. Please empower me to use your spiritual tools to do what you’ve called me to do. And let me be a beacon to others that your circle of protection is there. Amen.

I was reminded of this story when I read the devotion.
2 Kings 6:16 “Do not be afraid,” Elisha answered, “for those who are …
A very good reminder to trust, look to Him and His Provision when the desire to control and be anxious in the midst of trials feels overwhelming.

Great reminder! This week my heart has been singing and rejoicing. My sister had open heart surgery and she is recovering well! I saw my family, friends, and even myself become a afraid. Afraid for her and afraid that facing death can happen quickly. She had several blood clots that needed to be removed. The one her heart was seconds away from going into her brain and the Doctors said that she probably wouldn’t of made it.

As I was sharing this with a friend they made a comment that really got me to thinking.
“When we feel pain, we need to go and get help because it’s an indication that something is wrong.”

If my sister didn’t take her pain she was feeling in her leg serious and get help, she would of not made it. She had a huge blood clot in her leg.

I believe that when something is wrong in our hearts emotionally that we experience all kinds of feelings, thoughts, and we tend to act out in anger, frustration, or we become depressed. I’m reminded by this devotion today that it is important to take every thought captive and pay attention to my emotions. My help comes from the Lord!!!! He wants to deliver us and when we are thinking, acting, and feeling bad – we must run to him.
